Facebook Messenger has gained a ton of useful features in the past few years. It’s no longer just a simple chat program. You can send stickers, GIFs, voice messages, money and even play games. The latest game is Chess, which you can now play against a friend in a one-on-one chat with a simple command.
If you’re an occasional chess player but don’t own a chess set at home, chances are you’ve tried using mobile apps to play either against a computer or other players online. But did you know that for a month now, you can actually play chess against your Facebook friends through its Messenger app? There wasn’t any big announcement but some users have already spotted it the last month or so and yes, it really does work and hopefully, it will stay for good.
Unfortunately though, Facebook’s chess game is not a touchscreen implementation that you are probably used to if you have used dedicated chess apps from the Play Store. Instead, players have to type in commands to move the pieces around and a picture is updated with the latest piece positions.
To start a game, log into messenger, either on your mobile device or on your laptop, find a friend who wants to take you on, and then type @fbchess play to start your game.

- From group chat, @fbchess continue from [thread name]
